Marchand Assigned to Indy, Wyszomirski Released from Tryout
ROCKFORD, Ill. – The American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs today announced they have assigned goaltender Chase Marchand to the ECHL’s Indy Fuel and released defenseman Craig Wyszomirski from his tryout.
Marchand, 23, helped lead St. Francis Xavier University to a U SPORTS bronze medal during his junior season in 2018-19, posting a 7-11-0 record with a 2.90 GAA and .910 save percentage in 19 games. The 6-0, 180-lbs netminder made 30 or more saves in seven contests last season and posted a season-high four-game winning streak from Oct. 20 – Nov. 2. In the playoffs, Marchand led all netminders with 370 total saves while recording a 5-5-0 record with a 2.80 GAA and .930 save percentage in 10 postseason appearances. With Marchand between the pipes, St. Francis Xavier went 2-1 while defeating Saskatachewan to earn a bronze medal. The goaltender stopped 48 of 49 shots in the medal game.
The Halifax, Novia Scotia native then made his professional debut with the Indy Fuel and finished with a 1-1-0 record, 4.33 GAA and .873 save percentage over two starts last year.
Wyszomirski, 27, split the 2018-19 campaign between the ECHL and AHL, skating in 34 AHL contests between Utica (three games) and Ontario (31 games) and 27 ECHL games with Manchester. He began the campaign with 10 points (2g, 8a) and 43 penalty minutes with the Monarchs before making his AHL season debut on Jan. 5 in Utica’s contest at Cleveland. Wyszomirksi then logged seven points (1g, 6a) in the AHL, including picking up his lone multi-point effort with a pair of assists on March 8 at Tucson.
Overall, the Mahwah, New Jersey native has combined for seven points (1g, 6a) in 44 career AHL games and 37 points (8g, 29a) in 142 career ECHL contests.
