Milwaukee, Wisc. - Sam Carrick picked up his third goal in the last three games with just 24 seconds remaining in overtime to lead the Rockford IceHogs to a 3-2 overtime win over the Milwaukee Admirals at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena on Friday night.
After goaltender Jeff Glass turned aside Matt White on a breakaway just minutes earlier, Carrick played the overtime hero for Rockford, netting the game-winner to give Rockford its first overtime victory this season and snap an eight-game winless streak.
Ville Pokka tied the game with under seven minutes to play in the third period. He blasted a slap shot from the right circle that slipped through a few bodies in front of the net to tie the game at 2-2.
Rockford grabbed an early lead when Brandon Mashinter snagged a pass from Martin Lundberg and finished off a breakaway strike just 1:15 into the contest, but the Admirals were able to quickly counter with a pair of goals of their own. A defensive zone turnover helped Matt White pop home a nearly empty-net tally at 4:39, and Vladislav Kaminev found Adam Payerl for a rebound tally at 10:04 as Milwaukee took a 2-1 lead into the second period.
With the win, Rockford tied its season-high point streak at four games.
Next Home Game: Saturday, Feb. 11 vs. San Antonio Rampage at 7 p.m. The IceHogs begin a five-game home stand Saturdaynight when they face the Rampage for the fourth time this season. The first 2,500 will receive an IceHogs T-shirt compliments of Toyota.
