KISHWAUKEE STUDENTS "STICK TO READING" WITH THE ICEHOGS
Students rewarded for reading program organized by Kyle Hagel
Rockford, Ill.- Members of the Rockford IceHogs traded in skates for gym shoes and played a floor hockey game with the winning students from IceHogsā winger Kyle Hagelās āStick To Reading ā program at Kishwaukee Elementary School.
Hagelās reading program included fourth and fifth graders at Kishwaukee Elementary School in Rockford and both grade levels featured a grand-prize winner while six others from each grade were rewarded for outstanding achievement in the reading program.
The fourth grade Grand-Prize winner was Kalen Spates. The six other students who earned recognition included Dayshawn Rogers, Izaah Rhodes, Maddison White, Mark Yang, Isabella Adams and Justin Cruz.
Hassan Jacobs was the Grand-Prize winner from the fifth grade level. Other winners from the fifth grade were Devon Sawtelle, Sydney White, Mareonna Carrington, Lanijah Hardgraves, Shakeita Jefferson and Anijah Hawkins.
The Grand Prize winners received tickets to an upcoming IceHogs game, will receive a behind-the-scenes tour of the Rockford MetroCentre and will get an opportunity to meet some members of this yearās IceHogs team following the game.
Hagel was joined by Garnet Exelby, Brian Connelly, Rob Klinkhammer, Brandon Bollig, Ryan Stanton, Ben Smith, Peter LeBlanc and Alec Richards in the floor hockey game.
The reading program kicked off on Jan. 4 and students accumulated points for the amount of books read and the length of the books. Students who finished with the highest point total got to participate in the floor hockey game in front of their classmates.
