JOHNSON NETS TWO AS HOGS SLIP PAST WOLVES

Recap 11 19 sized

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Vinnie Hinostroza and David Kampf found twine in the shootout as the Rockford IceHogs stretched their win streak to two games with a victory over the Chicago Wolves at the BMO Harris Bank Center Sunday night.

Hinostroza struck with a similar move to the one that won Saturday’s shootout against Grand Rapids, and Kampf sealed the win with a quick wrist shot past Chicago netminder C.J. Motte.

Rockford’s Luke Johnson also starred with two goals, while Chicago’s Paul Thompson led his team with a goal and an assist.

The IceHogs opened the scoring midway through the first period as Hinostroza cut through the Wolves’ defense and slotted his team-leading eighth goal of the season past Motte to give Rockford the lead.

Hinostroza has now notched 11 points in 11 career games against the Wolves, and currently leads the IceHogs with 17 points in 17 total games in 2017-18.

Chicago’s Ivan Barbashev knotted the game four minutes later, but Johnson tallied his first goal of the game with 30 seconds left in the period to put Rockford back on top.

The teams played scoreless hockey for the duration of the second period, but Johnson’s second strike 5:39 into the final frame gave the Hogs a two-goal lead.

Chicago then mounted a two-goal comeback over the remaining 14:21. Jake Walman got the Wolves within a goal eight minutes after Johnson’s tally, and Thompson broke through the IceHogs power play to score and once again tie the game with a shorthanded marker with 3:07 left in the game.

Rockford put three pucks on net and held Chicago shotless in overtime, but neither team found the back of the net until Hinostroza earned the shootout winner.

Rockford netminder Jeff Glass stopped 34 shots in his fifth-consecutive win, while Motte turned aside 36 pucks at the other end.

The IceHogs have now won three of their last four outings.
