Rockford, Ill. - On March 13 the Rockford IceHogs will suit up in special “protect and serve” jerseys to honor first responders. The jerseys were revealed at a press conference on Thursday at Lou Bachrodt Auto Mall.

The IceHogs will don special black jerseys to recognize area first responders in the 12th annual jersey auction game. The concept and design of the logo and jersey were created by Mike Bunjan at bunjcreative.com.

Immediately following the game on March 13, the team will hold a live auction on the ice where fans can bid on the jerseys. All proceeds from the jersey auction go to the IceHogs Charitable Foundation. Some of the jersey auction beneficiaries include the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts of America, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Rockford and Jr. IceHogs.

Last season, the generous IceHogs fans raised $29,865 at the Annual Jersey Auction and now have totaled $579,603 in 11 auctions since the team was founded in 1999, with all the proceeds staying in the Rockford community. In 2009-10 the IceHogs and IceHogs Charitable Foundation raised $110,953.60 for local and national non-profit causes and organizations.

To go along with the live jersey auction, the night will also feature several silent auction items and a raffle for a customize-your-own jersey auction jersey.

The IceHogs will battle their West Division rival Chicago Wolves in the afternoon contest at 4:05 p.m. on March 13 at the Rockford MetroCentre. The first 2,500 fans into the building will get a special jersey auction IceHogs t-shirt courtesy of Lou Bachrodt, Pepsi, Dental Dimensions, 13-WREX and B103-FM.
