ICEHOGS SWEEP RAMPAGE
San Antonio, Texas-The Rockford IceHogs (7-2-0-1) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (5-5-0-0) for the second consecutive night. The visiting Hogs tallied two goals in the first two periods and added a third period goal to earn a 5-1 win Saturday night at the AT&T Center.
Brandon Mashinter opened the scoring at the 10:35 mark in the first period. Mashinter’s power play goal from Peter Regin and Joakim Nordstrom was the third power play goal in the last five games against San Antonio.
The Hogs would later extend their lead by two following Mark McNeill’s goal from Ville Pokka and Phillip Danault with 5:11 left in period number one. Pokka tallied his first AHL point on the goal by McNeill.
Rockford then put two more goals behind Rampage goalie Michael Houser in the middle frame giving them a 4-0 lead following 40 of play. T.J. Brennan added a slap shot goal off a faceoff from Dennis Rasmussen 2:59 in the second period. Pokka notched his first AHL career goal with 6:39 in the second period with the Hogs on the man advantage. Matt Carey and Teuvo Teravainen each added helpers.
Rasmussen capped off the IceHogs scoring with a goal from Regin just 35 seconds into the third period.
San Antonio avoided the shutout as Mark Mancari put one behind Scott Darling from Blake Parlett and Brett Olson at the 15:04 mark of the final period. Darling made 30 saves to improve his record to 3-0-0-0 and extended his road winning streak to three games after returning from a brief stint with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Rockford's victory equals last season’s start from when the IceHogs began the 2013-14 campaign 7-2-1-0.
