Rosemont, IL - The Rockford IceHogs stormed past the Chicago Wolves with a 3-2 overtime win on Saturday night at Allstate Arena. Dominic Toninato deflected in the OT power play goal to improve Rockford's record to 4-0.
In Chicago's home opener, the Wolves struck first 10:51 into the 1st period. Gleb Trikozov located a rebound in front of Rockford's crease and pushed the puck past Stanislav Berezhnoy.
Just 17 seconds later, the Hogs responded and tied the game 1-1. A strong forecheck freed up the puck for Dillon Boucher who fed Paul Ludwinski in the slot. The Hawks' 2nd-round pick snapped his shot home over the shoulder of Chicago's Nikita Quapp.
In the 2nd period, the Rockford net was under siege with the Wolves throwing 19 shots towards Berezhnoy. The Russian goalie stopped all 19 and kept the Wolves off the board.
The Hogs earned a power play midway through the frame and capitalized for a 2-1 lead. Oliver Moore danced into the zone and drew Wolves defenders to him, then set up Nick Lardis on the back post to tap in the rookie's first professional goal.
After allowing the tying goal to Chicago's Felix Unger Sorum, the Hogs drew a penalty with 20 seconds to go in regulation.
On the 4-on-3 advantage in overtime, Lardis snapped the puck to the back door where Toninato guided in the game-winning-goal. Berezhnoy earned the win in net, stopping 38 Chicago shots.
