ICEHOGS SIGN MNICH, RECALL CARRUTH
Mnich to serve as a backup in Friday’s game
San Jose, Calif.- The American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs have signed goalie Steve Mnich to an amateur tryout (ATO). Additionally, the IceHogs have recalled goaltender Mac Carruth from the ECHL’s Indy Fuel.
Mnich, 29, will dress for Friday’s season opener against the San Jose Barracuda as backup to Michael Leighton. Mnich will be stepping in for Mark Visentin who is out with an illness.
Carruth, 23, appeared in three regular season games for the IceHogs in 2014-15, posting a 2-1-0-0 record including his first career AHL shutout on Nov. 23 against the Chicago Wolves. The second year netminder showed a 1.69 goals against average and .925 save percentage in his three starts for Rockford.
The Jackson, Wyo. native primarily spent the 2014-15 campaign between the pipes for the IceHogs ECHL affiliate, Indy Fuel. Carruth racked up a 17-13-2-7 record with a 2.55 goals against average and .914 save percentage with Indy.
The netminder manned the net in seven games for the IceHogs in 2013-14, posting a 2-2-1 record with a 3.36 GAA and .880 SV%.
Carruth was drafted by the Blackhawks in the seventh round (#191 overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
