ICEHOGS RETURN TO WINNING WAYS
IceHogs defend the Wild in game one of back-to-back weekend.
Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs ended their four game losing streak by defeating the Iowa Wild in game one of the back-to-back meetings between the two teams this weekend.
The IceHogs came out strong in the first period tallying the game’s first two goals. It marked just the fourth game this season where the IceHogs scored first. In those four tilts, the Hogs are 3-0-1-0 and have walked away with at least a standings point.
Defenseman Bobby Shea got the scoring started and notched his first career AHL goal at 5:22 in the opening frame with help from Pat Mullane and Byron Froese.
Then, less than three minutes later, Brad Winchester gave the IceHogs a 2-0 lead when he buried his fourth goal of the campaign at the 7:55 mark. Terry Broadhurst and Theo Peckham picked up the helpers on the play.
The Wild got one back however, as goaltender Antti Raanta stopped two quick Iowa shots but Jason Zucker snuck a third past the Hogs’ netminder to bring the score to 2-1.
Terry Broadhurst sealed the game as he skated around a defender to send it past goaltender, Darcy Kuemper for his fourth of the season. Adam Clendening and Mark McNeill were there for the assists.
Raanta picked up his sixth win of the campaign, stopping 24 of the 25 shots he faced.
