Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard announced Wednesday that Left Wing Ryan Flinn has been signed to an American Hockey League contract for the remainder of the season by the Rockford IceHogs.

Flinn, 29, has appeared in 15 games for the IceHogs this season, registering three points (1g-2a) and racking up 62 penalty minutes. He started the season with the IceHogs and skated in two games on a Professional Tryout Agreement before being released on Oct. 13. Then he was brought back and signed to another PTO on Nov. 17.


The Halifax, Nova Scotia native was selected #143 overall (round 5) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils. He skated in 52 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2008-09, notching two goals, two assists and 122 penalty minutes. In 297 career AHL games, Flinn has collected 30 points (13g-17a) and 945 PIMs.

Flinn has played in a total of 31 games in the National Hockey League, all with the Los Angeles Kings. He has notched one career goal and 84 penalty minutes.


Bernard also announced that Right Wing Bryan Ewing was recalled to Rockford from the Toledo Walleye and then released from his AHL contract.


“At this time we have mutually agreed to release Bryan from his AHL contract so he can pursue other hockey options,” said Bernard.


Ewing, 24, has tallied two points (1g-1a) in nine games for Rockford this season. The winger has spent the majority of the season with the Walleye, notching 21 points (8g-13a) in 26 games.
