IceHogs Hold Off Gulls, Skate to 3-2 Win in San Diego

San Diego, CA - The Rockford IceHogs continued their road trip with a 3-2 victory over the Gulls inside Pechanga Arena on Friday night.
The Gulls opened the scoring at 13:10 of the 1st period with a tally from San Diego's leading scorer Sasha Pastujov. The forward cleaned up a rebound behind Olivier Rodrigue for the 1-0 lead.
Rockford pulled even with a snipe from Nick Lardis in the opening moments of the 2nd period from the near dot for his 18th of the season.
The Hogs took a 2-1 lead when they executed a perfect 3-on-2 rush. Kevin Lombardi fed Rem Pitlick in the slot, who spotted Dominic Toninato by the back post. Rockford built the advantage to 3-1 while shorthanded thanks to a Gavin Hayes' strike from the slot off of a Gulls' turnover.
On the same San Diego power play, the Gulls struck back on a one-time blast from Sam Colangelo to bring SD back within one goal.
San Diego pushed for the equalized in the 3rd period, but Rodrigue rose to the occasion for his first IceHogs win making 28 saves.
