ICEHOGS HAVE RECORD SETTING SEASON ON AND OFF ICE
Rockford, Ill. – The Rockford IceHogs set a new attendance record during the 2015-16 season, welcoming 190,492 fans to contest at the BMO Harris Bank Center in downtown Rockford. Both the total attendance and the average of 5,012 fans per game represented new IceHogs attendance records.
The IceHogs improved upon their attendance for the sixth time in the last seven seasons, and surpassed records set during the 2014-15 season. That year, the team reached new marks with 182,540 fans overall and an average of 4,804 fans. The IceHogs sold out the BMO 11 times last season and came within 160 fans of selling out six other contests. The team posted 10 sell outs in 2014-15.
On the ice, the team saw a number of new performance records established. Goaltender Michael Leighton set a new American Hockey League shutout record when he turned in his 46th career perfect performance in a 5-0 win over the Lake Erie Monsters on March 5. Following Leighton’s promotion to the Chicago Blackhawks, Mac Carruth stepped in and notched the longest shutout streak in team history. After surrendering a first period goal against the Iowa Wild on April 13, Carruth did not allow a goal for the next 152:17. He turned in a 4-0 win over Grand Rapids on April 15, and then had the streak snapped with a late goal against Milwaukee on April 16.
Two Rockford rookies also found their way into the team record books in 2015-16. Vince Hinostroza ended the campaign with 51 points, the most ever by an IceHogs first-year skater, and also was the first rookie to lead the team in overall scoring. His 35 assists placed second all-time behind the 37 picked up by Adam Clendening in 2012-13. Meanwhile, Tanner Kero set a new team record for first-year pros with 20-goals, surpassing Ben Smith’s 19 tallies in 2010-11.
