Rockford, Ill. – The Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League announced on Tuesday that the team will participate in Movember in support of men’s health and prostate cancer awareness.
IceHogs players, coaches and front office personnel will sport mustaches for the month of November to help raise awareness and money for The Regional Cancer Center at SwedishAmerican Hospital.
Throughout the 30-day moustache-growing contest, fans can vote for the player with the best “stache” by donating to that player’s donation jar at each IceHogs game. The donation jars will be displayed by the U.S. Cellular Fan Zone on the main concourse of the BMO Harris Bank Center with an updated photo of the player’s mustache.
Fans can vote at all the following Movember games: 11/6 vs. Charlotte, 11/12 vs. Peoria, 11/16 vs. Oklahoma City, 11/23 vs. San Antonio, 11/25 vs. Peoria and 11/26 vs. Oklahoma City.
Pictures will be taken of each player’s progress throughout the month and shared on the IceHogs Facebook fan page and the team’s Twitter account.
In addition to the IceHogs Movember initiative, Brandon Bollig, along with a few teammates, are participating in the Hockey Players For Kids' Movember initiative. Fans can join Bollig in HP4K's fan contest by sending their best Movember mustache pictures to info@hp4k.org for a chance to win some HP4K gear. Each entry should include a full name and email address.
More than 200,000 men in the United States are affected by prostate cancer. Most men have prostate screening exams included in their health care plans, but many neglect to see a doctor on a regular basis for the exam. As a result, the medical field tends to spend more available funds on information and advertising programs concerning the disease, than on the actual exams.
