Des Moines, IA – Forward Brad Morrison netted both goals and forward Chad Yetman added two assists to help the Rockford IceHogs (0-2-1-0) earn a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Iowa Wild (2-1-1-0) at Wells Fargo Arena Saturday evening. Goaltender Matt Tomkins made 34 saves, including a fantastic penalty-shot stop in overtime.
Forward Brad Morrison ignited the scoring early with his first goal of the season in his IceHogs debut 3:29 into the contest, tapping in a nice centering pass from forward Chad Yetman past Wild goalie Dereck Baribeau (W, 28 saves on 30 shots). Just over 10 minutes later, Morrison found himself again around the crease to knock in his second of the game from Mitch Fossier and Yetman. For Fossier, he picks up his first pro point in his pro debut.
The Wild settled down and responded with a pair of markers in the second period to tie the contest. Forward Gabriel Dumont buried his fourth goal of the season 5:58 of the season, completing a two-on-one rush with Will Bitten. Moments later, center Damien Giroux cashed in on an IceHogs turnover at 9:52, sneaking in his first marker of the season under the pads of Hogs netminder Matt Tomkins (OTL, 34 saves on 37 shots).
In the final frame, the IceHogs rattled off eight shots to the Wilds’ two, but neither side could strike to send the contest to overtime. During the extra skate, Bitten had his skates knocked out while on a breakaway to set up a penalty shot which Tomkins responded with a marvelous pad stop at 3:10. However, 19 seconds after the one-on-one effort, Iowa’s Adam Beckman buried the game-winning marker to give the home club their second win of the season.
The IceHogs finished the contests 0-for-2 on the power play while the Wild went 0-for-4.
