ICEHOGS DROP ANOTHER GAME TO ADMIRALS IN NORFOLK
Hogs and Admirals each won their two home games in the four-game season series
Norfolk, Va.- The Rockford IceHogs have been swept in their three-game road trip thanks to a 3-1 loss to the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday at the Norfolk Scope.
The Rockford IceHogs took the lead 1-0 with a Pascal Pelletier marker at 2:33 in the first. Petri Kontiola and Jack Skille were credited with the assists.
After the two teams combined for 37 penalty minutes in the first period of last night's contest, Saturday's first frame stayed relatively quite with only one fight and a total of 18 PIMs.
Then the two teams went scoreless for almost 41 minutes. Norfolk's Brandon Segal tied the score at 3:35 in the third period with helpers from Radek Smolenak and Paul Szczechura.
Zenon Konopka gave the Admirals the lead just 12 seconds later, and then Bracken Kearns added an empty-netter at 19:13.
It is the second striaght game that the IceHogs took the lead but eventually lost the game. It is also the first time since March 31-April 9, 2004 that an IceHogs team has lost five straight games in regulation. During that stretch in 2004, the UHL IceHogs fell in seven straight in regulation to end the season 28-43-5.
Karri Ramo got his second straight win with 20 saves as the Admirals return the favor of a weekend sweep of the IceHogs. Rockford and Norfolk are now both 2-2-0-0 in their all-time and season series.
Antti Niemi took the loss with 16 saves in the first game since Oct. 25 that the IceHogs have out shot their opponent and only third time this season.
Next Home Game: Wednesday, Nov. 12 vs. Milwaukee Admirals at 7:05 p.m. The Rockford IceHogs return home from a mini-road trip after a set of games in Norfolk, Virginia.
