IceHogs Downed By Griffins in GR 7-3
Grand Rapids, MI - The Rockford IceHogs fell 7-3 on Wednesday night to the Grand Rapids Griffins inside Van Andel Arena.
1:08 into the game, Sheldon Dries struck for the Griffins just outside the crease and put the puck off the far post and in.
The IceHogs responded with two goals in the span of 1:40 to take a 2-1 lead. Nick Lardis rocketed home a wrist shot from the near circle to tie the game. Less than two minutes later, Ryan Gagnier swooped in down the wing and fed Connor Mylymok driving the net for his third goal of the season.
With three minutes remaining in period one, Amadeus Lombardi lifted a backhand into the net to tie the game back up at 2-2.
In the opening moments of the 2nd, Griffins leading scorer John Leonard roofed the go-ahead 3-2 goal from the left circle. GR doubled its lead when Carter Mazur knocked in a one-time drive from the slot at 11:09.
Michael Brandsegg-Nygard built the Griffins lead to 5-2, when he pushed the puck off Ryan Mast in front of the Rockford net and in.
At 6:40 of the 3rd, Joey Anderson located a rebound after a Michal Postava save and tucked in a backhander to cut the deficit to 5-3. Erik Gustafsson and Gabriel Seger cashed in on empty-net goals for the 7-3 final.
