Rosemont, IL - The Rockford IceHogs suffered their first loss of the season, 6-5 at the hands of the Chicago Wolves on Sunday at the Allstate Arena.
The Wolves pounced early with three goals in the opening 6:40 of the game. First, it was Bradly Nadeau, who stuffed the puck over top of Drew Commesso's shoulder from behind the Rockford net.
59 seconds later, Chicago defenseman Ronan Seeley batted a loose puck out of mid air to double the Wolves advantage. Chicago extended the advantage while on one of their four 1st period power plays. Nikita Pavlycchev deflected in a point shot just outside the crease.
Before the end of the period, Rockford cut into the deficit to get on the board. Nolan Allan fed Ryan Gagnier down low after a face off win to make it 3-1 Wolves.
In the 2nd period, the Hogs continued their comeback with Brett Seney connecting on a wrist shot from the near circle after a Nick Lardis feed. Moments later, it was Seney who returned the favor to Lardis and the rookie blasted in a one-time shot to tie the game 3-3.
Rockford scored its 4th goal in under four minutes with a creative give-and-go between Seney and Dmitri Kuzmin. The Rockford defenseman deked backhand forehand and slid the puck past the Wolves' Amir Miftakhov.
The Wolves punched back to tie at 4-4 with a Gavin Bayreuther blast from the far wall. First-year Hog Dominic Toninato ripped the Rockford lead right back, finishing a rebound in-tight after a Taige Harding point shot. Chicago pulled even again 5-5 at 16:41 of the 2nd period with another power play goal, this time from Felix Unger Sorum.
In the opening three minutes of the 3rd, Ryan Suzuki capitalized off of an IceHogs turnover and snapped home the game-winning goal.
