Rockford takes five of six points in three game week
Rockford, Ill. - The Rockford IceHogs beat the Peoria Rivermen 4-1 at the Rockford MetroCentre on Sunday.
The IceHogs sandwiched two goals in the first and third periods to take away their second straight victory and five points on the week.
"We're getting contributions throughout the line up," Peters said. "And good teams do that."
After a scoreless second, Tim Brent with assists from Petri Kontiola and Danny Groulx scored Rockford's first insurance marker and Rob Klinkhammer tacked on an empty net goal with helpers from Mike Brennan and Pascal Pelletier at 18:19.
The IceHogs last nine goals have come from eight different skaters.
"When you start to score goals, you feel good about yourself and you're not squeezing the stick quite as much," Peters said. "It's easier to make plays when you're relaxed."
In the first frame, The Hogs scored first thanks to a rebound marker from winger Pascal Pelletier at 4:27 on a power play. The assists were credited to Jack Skille and Petri Kontiola.
But Peoria's Chris Conner knotted the game again just 30 seconds later. Jonas Junland and Nicholas Drazenovic got the assists. It was Connor's fifth goal and seventh point in five games.
Tim Hambly scored on an unassisted goal at 8:59 in the first to put the IceHogs up 2-1. The goal is Hambly's first of the 2008-09 season.
"We competed very hard this weekend," Peters said. "We had more desperation and want and if you do that it's going to go a long way."
Antti Niemi finished with 27 saves, while Ben Bishop had 25 shots. Rockford's power play was successful two out of the five attempts, while the IceHogs kept the Rivermen off the board in four attempts.
Next Home Game: Friday Nov. 21: Peoria Rivermen vs. Rockford IceHogs at 7:30 p.m. The IceHogs and Rivermen meet for the second straight game at the Rockford MetroCentre. The IceHogs welcome the Chicago Sky Drumline to the MetroCentre on Friday night as they entertain fans during the intermissions and timeouts.
