ICEHOGS BATTLE BACK BUT FALL 2-1 IN SHOOTOUT

Cedar Park, Texas. – The Rockford IceHogs (7-13-2-3) faught back from a 1-0 deficit but fell 2-1 in a shootout to the Texas Stars (13-8-1-1) on Saturday at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
Spencer Abbott notched Rockford's lone goal in the contest, tying him with defenseman Cameron Schilling for the team lead with six strikes each.
With the teams tied 1-1 in the overtime frame, the Hogs nearly collected a victory when Erik Gustafsson fired a shot from the left circle. The puck fired past goaltender Landon Bow, but stayed out of the cage after ringing the goalpost to keep the Stars in the game.
Texas took advantage in the shootout, as Brenden Ranford and Travis Morin each scored while Bow kept the IceHogs off the board.
Gemel Smith scored the lone first period goal, giving Texas a 1-0 lead 2:38 into the contest. Denis Gurianov tossed a pass chest-high towards the net, and Smith knocked it out of mid-air and past netminder Mac Carruth. The IceHogs held a 9-6 shots on goal advantage after one, but trailed 1-0.
In the second frame, the IceHogs knotted the score at 1-1. Spencer Abbott took a feed from Cameron Schilling down the left side, made a quick move to the top of the circle, and fired the puck into the cage at 4:52.
Rockford outshot Texas 37-28 in the game, and 83-53 over the course of the two-game series.
