IceHogs and Griffins Take Heated Series to Grand Rapids Tonight

Rockford, IL – The Rockford IceHogs, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL), visit the Grand Rapids Griffins tonight at 6:00 CT at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI. Tonight is the fourth of eight scheduled meetings between the two clubs this season and the second of three consecutive games between the IceHogs and Griffins.

Griffins and IceHogs Take Series to Grand Rapids
The IceHogs see the Griffins in Game 2 of three consecutive meetings tonight at collide for the first time this season at Van Andel Arena. The IceHogs fell in Game 1, 3-1 on Thursday in Rockford and will close their three-game set on Tuesday in Grand Rapids.

Hogs and Griffins = Best Friends?
When this three-game series closes on Tuesday, the IceHogs will have seen the Griffins in four of their last six contests and will not see their long-time rivals again until Apr. 10 at Grand Rapids.

Hogs Close Homestand
The IceHogs wrapped up a four-game homestand on Thursday at BMO Harris Bank Center against the Griffins, falling 3-1. The homestand is tied for the longest for the IceHogs this season with their previous four-game homestand from Feb. 16-23 vs. Chicago, Grand Rapids and Cleveland.

Home Ice Advantage
Home ice has been kind to the IceHogs and Griffins in their all-time series. The IceHogs hold a 34-17-1-1 record against the Griffins at BMO Harris Bank Center while they are 18-25-4-3 at Van Andel arena over their 14-year history. The Griffins are currently breaking the trend with a 3-0-0 record at the BMO this season, marking one of their most successful seasons ever in Rockford.

Mitchell Hits 500 Pro Games Today
Through 499 professional games in the NHL, AHL, ECHL and overseas, IceHogs team captain Garrett Mitchell has racked up 71 goals and 85 assists for 156 points. Congratulations, Garratt!

Busdeker Is Buzzin'
Forward D.J. Busdeker picked up the lone goal for the IceHogs on Thursday and now has two goals in his last two games and three tallies over his last four contests. In just five professional games, the rookie holds three goals and an assist for four points.

Krutil and McKay Add First AHL Points
Rookie defenseman Michael Krutil and first-year forward Riley McKay each picked up an assist on Busdeker's goal on Thursday, marking their first AHL points.

Barber Continues Hot Streak
Griffins forward Riley Barber extended his season-opening point streak to nine games with a goal in the second period, marking the longest point streak to start a player's Griffins career. Barber leads the head-to-head series with four goals and had eight goals and five assists for 13 points in nine games to be one of the top point producers in the American Hockey League.

Griffins Forward Eyeing IceHogs Head Coach Derek King's Record
Barber's point streak is impressive as it ties the 17th longest streak in Grand Rapids Griffins history, but did you know that current IceHogs Head Coach Derek King set the initial Griffins record? King set the mark with a 17-game point streak during the 2000-01 season and has only been bested once (Donald Maclean, 19 games in 2005-06)!
