HUTTON HOISTS HOGS TO 2-1 SHOOTOUT WIN
Rockford, Ill. – Great goaltending has been the name of the game all season for Rockford’s Carter Hutton, and he carried his hot glove into Thursday’s game against San Antonio as the IceHogs held on to win 2-1 in shootout fashion at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
Hutton has been stellar in net for the IceHogs despite a record of 1-3-1 in the early season and he came up big again for Rockford late in the game.
With the score locked at 1-1 after 60 minutes, Hutton fended off all San Antonio chances in overtime and denied all four Rampage skaters in the shootout. Centers Martin St. Pierre and Marcus Kruger did the rest, tallying in the shootout to give the Hogs an eventual 2-1 decision.
Just 53 seconds into the game the Rampage jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. Drew Shore passed to Quinton Howard behind the net and found Andre Deveaux in front of the net who tapped in his first goal of the season.
Then, with under a minute left in the middle frame, Brandon Pirri tied it up at 1-1. Jeremy Morin found a loose puck in front of the Rampage net and fired it at goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris, who blocked it down. Pirri picked up the rebound and flipped it into the back of the net at 19:19 for his second goal of the season. Joe Lavin also assisted on the play.
The IceHogs head to Grand Rapids on Saturday with a record of 2-3-0-1 for a tilt with the Griffins.
