HOT HOGS ROLL TO 8TH WIN IN 10 GAMES WITH 5-2 VICTORY OVER RAMPAGE
ROCKFORD, Ill. – Brandon Davidson scored his first goal of the season and William Pelletier and Nick Moutrey followed with empty-netters to boost the Rockford IceHogs to a 5-2 win over the San Antonio Rampage Sunday afternoon at the BMO Harris Bank Center. With the victory, the IceHogs concluded their six-game homestand at 4-2-0-0 and have now won eight of the last 10 games since Jan. 25.
Jacob Nilsson crashed the net to set up Davidson’s tally. As the puck rebounded in front of the net, Davidson tipped it past an outstretched Jared Coreau for 3-2 lead. The tally held as the decisive blow as Rockford goaltender Kevin Lankinen stonewalled San Antonio from there en route to a 23-save victory.
Luke Johnson and Jordan Schroeder also each scored for the IceHogs, beginning with Johnson potting the opening goal of the game. The Rockford forward skated in from the left side and corralled a nifty pass from Andreas Martinsen. In the process of controlling the feed and tumbling towards the ice, Johnson tapped the puck past Coreau’s blocker for his sixth goal in the last 10 games.
Schroeder continued his own hot streak by finding twine for his 11th point in his last 11 contests. He skated in from the far circle and wristed home a goal at 1:02 in the second period to give Rockford an early 2-0 advantage.
Mark Cooper and Joey LaLeggia erased the two-goal deficit with back-to-back markers for San Antonio before Davidson broke the deadlock at 4:51 in the third period.
Pelletier and Moutrey then put the game away for the IceHogs with empty-netters late in the final stanza.
