Hogs keep pace in the West with a split during Week 25

Week 25 Recap
The Rockford IceHogs earned a split during Week 25 of the 2007-08 American Hockey League regular season. The Hogs now enter the home stretch as 10 games remain, including Monday night’s tilt with the Milwaukee Admirals at the Bradley Center. Also on the slate for Week 26 is a home game against the Chicago Wolves and a home-and-home series with the Iowa Stars.

Bacon Bits:
-IceHogs goalie Wade Flaherty picked up career win 299 on Saturday against the Milwaukee Admirals

-Former IceHogs Niklas Hjalmarsson and Troy Brouwer both earned their first career NHL point with assists on Sunday with Chicago in the Blackhawks 4-3 overtime win over the St. Louis Blue

-Center Martin St. Pierre eclipsed the 80-point plateau making him fourth IceHogs skater to reach 80 points in Rockford’s nine-year history

-Jason Firth (110) and Mike Figliomeni (82) in 1999-2000 and Jason Notermann (81) in 2005-06 are the other 80-point scorers in Hogs history

-St. Pierre chipped in his 20th multi-point game of the season on Saturday, most on the IceHogs

-St. Pierre also set an IceHogs franchise record with 38 power-play points

-After playing just four games in 14 days Rockford will finish the regular season with 10 games in 21 days

-Defenseman Jerramie Domish had his streak of 22 consecutive games without a minus come to an end on Friday against Quad City

-Defenseman Ryan Stokes played in his 200th career AHL game on Saturday

-St. Pierre scored an empty net goal on Saturday against Milwaukee marking just the second empty netter scored by Rockford this season

-Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien tallied the only other empty netter on Oct. 16 at San Antonio

Hot Hog Week 25:
For the second week in a row Wade Flaherty is Rockford’s Player of the Week. The veteran puck stopper allowed just one goal in two appearances and helped backstop Rockford to a key 3-1 win over the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday night. Flaherty completed the week 1-0-0-0 with a .978 save percentage and a 0.24 goals against average.

Upcoming Games:
Monday, March 24 at Milwaukee Admirals. Game time is slated or 7 p.m. Rockford and Milwaukee conclude their 10-game regular season series on Monday. The IceHogs look to win the season series as they are 5-4-0-0 against the Admirals this season including 2-2-0-0.

Friday, March 28 vs. Chicago Wolves. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. Rockford and Chicago renew their rivalry at the MetroCentre in a West Division showdown. The game is the first of three down the homestretch between the teams. The first 1,000 fans to the game will pick up an IceHogs player figurine featuring Cam Barker, Mike Blunden and Martin St. Pierre courtesy of Wheels By RT and FOX 39.

Saturday, March 29 at Iowa Stars. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. Rockford travels back to Des Moines to take on the Stars for the final time this season at the Wells Fargo Arena. The game is the front end of a home-and-home series between the two clubs. Rockford is 3-0-0-0 at the Wells Fargo Arena this season.

Sunday, March 30 vs. Iowa Stars. The game begins at 4:05 p.m. The back end of a home-and-home series between the IceHogs and Stars concludes at the Rockford MetroCentre, as does Week 26. The first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive IceHogs Poster #6 courtesy of Pepsi, MedicineMan and Johnson Press.
