Rockford, Ill.- After scoring six goals against the Rivermen on Friday night in Peoria, the Rockford IceHogs could not find the back of the net on Saturday, losing to the Rivermen 3-0 at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
The Rivermen got on the board early with a tally from T.J. Hensick. Anthony Peluso fed a pass to Hensick inside the Rockford zone, and Hensick skated in front of a sprawling Alexander Salak, flipping the puck over the netminder’s shoulder at the 2:54 mark of the first period.
Brett Sonne extended Peoria's lead by a goal in the second period. Just after a Rivermen power play expired, Salak knocked down Cade Fairchild's blast from the blue line, but Sonne picked up the loose puck and tapped in his third goal of the season at 14:00 in the second frame.
Peoria sealed the game halfway through the third period with a power-play goal from Brett Sterling. With heavy traffic in front of the IceHogs goal, Sterling found an opening and ripped a shot past Salak to give the Rivermen a 3-0 lead.
Rockford went 0-for-6 on the power play, while the Rivermen converted on one of their five opportunities.
Salak made 25 saves in the loss, while Ben Bishop turned away all 37 IceHogs shots he faced to earn the win.
