Wolves net eight unanswered tallied in 8-3 win

Rosemont, Ill.- A quick start by the Rockford IceHogs was wiped out by eight unanswered goals on Saturday night. The Hogs fell to the Chicago Wolves 8-3 at the Allstate Arena despite a three point night from center Martin St. Pierre.

Rockford grabbed the early 2-0 advantage with goals 42-seconds apart. Defenseman Cam Barker potted the first one when he deflected a cross-ice pass from St. Pierre past Fred Brathwaite at 4:12. Then at 4:54 St. Pierre slammed in his eighth tally of the season off of a rebound. Danny Richmond and Colin Fraser helped out with assists.

The Wolves were able to cut the IceHogs lead in half on the power play. Defenseman Nathan Oystrick slapped home his second goal of the campaign from the point, sneaking it past Hogs goalie Wade Flaherty at 6:57.

Chicago tied the contest at 8:02 of the second frame. Winger Brett Sterling swiped in his eighth goal of year off a pass from Jason Krog. Chicago then broke the game open with three goals in three minutes.

Center Steve Martins redirected an Oystrick blast at 10:23 while on the power play giving Chicago its first lead of the night. Jordan Lavallee made it a 4-2 game flipping in his seventh goal of the season past Flaherty at 12:54. The Wolves scoring barrage in the second period concluded with a Brian Fahey marker at 13:23 making 5-2 heading into the second intermission.

The Wolves offense didn’t let up in the final frame, tacking on three more goals. Krog flipped a power-play goal over Flaherty at 6:12 before Martins knocked in his second of the night at 8:24. Fahey later shot in his second tally of the contest at 11:30 making it 8-2. Barker added a lamp lighter for Rockford on a five-on-three power play, his second of the night.

Rockford was outshot 47-23 and the power play went 1-for-7. Chicago finished the contest 5-for-8 on the advantage.

Next Home Game: Sunday, Nov. 25 vs. Grand Rapids Griffins.
