HOGS ROLL OVER RAMPAGE 3-1

Vs SA Kruger1213a GH

Rockford, Ill. - It was a night where everything was clicking for the Rockford IceHogs. The offense tallied three goals, the special teams killed off all seven San Antonio power play attempts and Carter Hutton limited the Rampage to a single goal in Rockford’s 3-1 win at the BMO Harris Bank Center.

Winger Ben Smith put the IceHogs up to an early 1-0 advantage with his second goal of the season. Brandon Pirri found Smith wide open in the slot and he ripped a shot past Rampage goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris at 1:42 in the opening frame.

Then, on just the third shot of the game for the Rampage 15:11 into the first period, Casey Wellman tied it up at 1-1. Eric Selleck intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and dished a pass for Wellman to finish off top-shelf on a breakaway.

In the second period, Martin St. Pierre picked off a Jason DeSantis pass and finished top shelf on an unassisted goal to put the Hogs up 2-1 at the 7:28 mark.

The Hogs skated into the third period with the lead for the first time this season. Adam Clendening added some insurance just 2:39 into the final stanza with assistance from Smith and Jeremy Morin.

The rest of the third period the IceHogs successfully fended off five Rampage power play attempts and were able to hang on to a 3-1 victory.

The IceHogs struggled on the power play as well, and were unable to convert on all five attempts.

On the week, the Hogs finished with a perfect 3-0-0-0 record.
