ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford IceHogs have been awarded the prestigious “Commitment to Caring” community service award by SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health. The accolade was presented at SwedishAmerican Foundation's annual Puttin' on the Glitz fundraiser, and is SwedishAmerican’s highest award given to an individual or organization in the local Rockford community.
Off the ice, the IceHogs have displayed an unwavering commitment to the local community through 19 years in the Forest City, volunteering time and raising funds for various organizations. Each year, the Hogs host several specialty-jersey auctions that have now generated nearly $1 million for partner organizations like SwedishAmerican, March of Dimes, Autism Awareness and military veterans. The team also makes numerous community appearances throughout Rockford, helping establish reading programs at elementary schools, visiting patients at hospitals and working with local youth hockey programs.
Last year alone, the IceHogs raised and donated $15,000 to SwedishAmerican through their annual Pink in the Rink game on Jan. 28, 2017. The event featured pink ice and a variety of Pink in the Rink decoration through the BMO Harris Bank Center. The IceHogs Booster Club also generously donated its time to assist in the setup of pink-ribbon displays throughout the arena.
Since the inaugural Pink in the Rink game in 2010, the IceHogs have donated more than $180,000 to breast cancer research, and $41,000 directly to SwedishAmerican. The Hogs will host their 2017-18 Pink in the Rink game on Friday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
NEXT HOME GAME: The IceHogs welcome the Grand Rapids Griffins on Sat. Nov. 18. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a free T-shirt, courtesy of Toyota. Tickets can be purchased at IceHogs.com, by calling (815) 968-5222 or in-person at the BMO Harris Bank Center Box Office.
