Rockford takes on Toronto then heads back to Texas in Week 15

Week 14 Recap
The Rockford IceHogs pulled out three points in three games thanks to an overtime win and shootout loss in Week 14. The Hogs and their opponent’s averaged a combined 8.33 goals per game this week. The Hogs welcome the Toronto Marlies into the MetroCentre on Wednesday and then fly into Texas to take on Houston twice and San Antonio once.

Bacon Bits:
- Defenseman Mike Brennan scored his first professional goal on Thursday in his 98th pro game, all being with the IceHogs

- The blueliner recorded his first multi-point game (2a) on Saturday in his 99th pro game

- The IceHogs played in their first shootout since Oct. 28, 2009 (28 straight games) on Saturday

- Before Saturday, the Hogs had not played in back-to-back overtime/shootout games since 10/18/08-10/24/08

- Rockford’s 7-1 loss to Milwaukee matched the worst defeat since the team joined the American Hockey League (7-1 at Chicago, April 12, 2008)

- After playing nine straight West Division opponents, the Hogs skated against the North Division’s Grand Rapids on Saturday (8-4-0-1 overall vs. North, 3-2-0-1 at home)

- Pete MacArthur’s four game point streak (6a), which ended on Saturday, was the longest of the sophomore winger’s career

- Jack Skille’s goal and two assists on Thursday marked his highest single-game point total since Jan. 3, 2009 against Chicago

- Four players (Bryan Bickell, Brennan, Nathan Davis, Daryl Boyle) have now passed their goal-scoring totals from last season

Hot Hog Week 14:
Centerman Matt Keith chipped in Rockford’s only goal in the squad’s 7-1 loss to Milwaukee on Tuesday, added an assist in Rockford’s first goal on Thursday’s 5-4 overtime win over Houston and posted his sixth goal of the season in the second period on Saturday’s 5-4 shootout loss to Grand Rapids. After starting the week -11, Keith improved to -9 thanks to posting a point in three of Rockford’s five even-strength goals in Week 14.

Upcoming Games:
Wednesday, Jan. 6 vs. Toronto Marlies: Game time is 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs welcome the Toronto Marlies into the Rockford MetroCentre for the only time in 2009-10. It’s a Golden Goal Wednesday, so if the IceHogs score a goal with 9:10 left on the clock in the third period, one lucky fan will win $10,000. It is also WXRX Student Rush night, and all high school and college students with a valid student ID can purchase the best available seat for just $10 at the MetroCentre’s box office up to one hour before the game.

Friday, Jan. 8 at Houston Aeros:
The IceHogs head to Texas for a three-game weekend in the Lone Star State. The games begin on Friday in Houston, where the Hogs take on the Aeros at 7:35 p.m. It is the second of four stops at the Toyota Center for Rockford and third of eight games between the two teams on the season.

Saturday, Jan. 9 at San Antonio Rampage:
The puck drops at 7 p.m. The IceHogs take on the Rampage for the first time in 2009-10 on the road. It is their third of eight meetings on the season and first of four at the AT&T Center.

Sunday, Jan. 10 at Houston Aeros:
Rockford heads back to Houston to complete their Texas weekend. The puck drops at 4:05 p.m. It is the third of four games at the Toyota Center and fourth of eight between the Hogs and Aeros.
