Matchup: The IceHogs and Monsters take the ice after splitting the 2016-17 season series, 4-4-0-0. Each of the two teams dominated on its home ice and finished the campaign with a 3-1-0-0 record when skating in its home arena.
The IceHogs are led this season by new head coach, Jeremy Colliton, who guided Mora IK of the Swedish Hockey League to a league-best 35-4-13 record in 2016-17. Upon joining the Chicago Blackhawks system this year, the 32 year old piloted the 2017 Blackhawks Prospect team to the club’s first ever Matthew Wuest Memorial Cup Championship at the NHL Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, Mich.
Cleveland, just one full season removed from winning the 2015-2016 Calder Cup, will be bolstered by reinforcements from the NHL ranks tonight in winger Josh Anderson and defenseman Markus Nutivaara. Anderson capped the 2016-17 campaign with 17g-12a-29pts in 78 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets, while Nutivaara posted a +7 rating with two goals and five assists in 66 NHL contests.
