Rockford falls 4-3 in overtime

Milwaukee, Wis.-A first period penalty mess was nearly cleaned up by the Rockford IceHogs on Friday night as the team earned a point in a 4-3 overtime loss at the BMO Harris Bradley Center to the Milwaukee Admirals.

Rockford committed eight penalties for 30 minutes in the opening frame, allowing two power-play goals on five shorthanded situations, but didn't commit another penalty the rest of the game.

Nick Leddy and the IceHogs started the scoring early on Friday. Leddy picked up a Marcus Kruger pass and beat Jeremy Smith under the blocker 40-seconds into the period for his second goal of the season.

Penalty problems plagued Rockford later in the period as Milwaukee would strike for two power-play goals, both from Gabriel Bourque. Bourque's first came at 7:04 when he picked up a pass that deflected off of Taylor Beck's leg and into the open net where he cleaned up his sixth tally on the season.

After a double-minor penalty was called on Rockford's Brandon Saad, Bourque capitalized again. This time, the winger knocked a Ryan Ellis pass out of mid-air in front of Hutton and slipped his second goal of the night past Hutton at 11:34.

In the second period another scrum in front of Hutton resulted in Milwaukee's third goal of the night. Taylor Beck's shot was knocked to Michael Latte in the slot and the winger batted in his fourth goal of the season at 11:02.

Rockford grabbed a late goal in the second period to reduce their deficit to 3-2. Off of a Ben Smith face-off win, Brandon Pirri's redirected shot popped over the head of Jeremy Smith and into the Milwaukee goal at 19:52 of the second frame.

Martin St. Pierre tied the contest in the third period after some hard work from his linemates. Both Brandon Bollig and Kyle Beach helped work the puck away in the Milwaukee corner and Beach set up St. Pierre with a centering feed, where he slapped home his tenth goal of the season at 4:02 of the final frame.

In the overtime, the Hogs got crossed up in their own zone and Kevin Henderson picked up a loose puck a slid his fourth goal of the season under Hutton 1:45 into the extra frame to win it for Milwaukee.
