Youds’ late third period tally lifts Rockford over Peoria
Peoria, Ill.- The sense of urgency has set in the Rockford IceHogs locker room so it should come as no surprise that the IceHogs took another come-from-behind win on the road. Rockford downed the Peoria Rivermen 2-1 at Carver Arena after entering the third frame down 1-0.
Carter Hutton put out another one-goal effort, making 24 saves to help the IceHogs earn a point in their sixth straight game (5-0-0-1). The win also pulled the IceHogs back to .500 (26-26-2-5) for the first time in 51 games, going back to Oct. 28.
In the third frame, Rockford evened the game 1-1, 2:53 in. Ryan Stanton’s slap shot from the point was redirected past Jake Allen by Peter LeBlanc for his 18th goal of the season.
Then at 17:45, Ben Youds put Rockford on top. Stanton found Youds at the right point, and the d-man blasted his fourth goal of the season through traffic and past Allen for a 2-1 Rockford advantage.
The IceHogs are now 5-8-2-1 when trailing on the road after 40 minutes of hockey this season.
Peoria’s power play put them up 1-0 in the first period Saturday. Newly acquired Patrick O’Sullivan sent a pass from the left wing in front of the Rockford net where Adam Cracknell redirected his 16th goal of the season past Hutton at 13:49.
In the second period, Rockford outshot Peoria 15-9, but Allen blocked them all. The IceHogs had 1:28 of 5-on-3 power play time as well and failed to convert. Overall, Rockford outshot the Rivermen 32-25 in the game.
