HOGS DOWN CONDORS WITH THIRD-PERIOD BLITZ
ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford IceHogs notched an unanswered quartet of goals in the third period to earn a 4-1 victory over the Bakersfield Condors Tuesday night at the BMO Harris Bank Center. The win over the Condors is Rockford’s first in franchise history.
Andreas Martinsen, Tanner Kero and Gustav Forsling each struck for the IceHogs within a span of 7:39 in the final frame, and Adam Clendening added an empty-net tally to seal the win with 2:24 remaining in the game.
After giving up the game’s opening goal in the first stanza, Rockford tied the game just 48 seconds into the third period, when Martinsen took a Matthew Highmore pass in stride before tucking the puck above Bakersfield netminder Laurent Brossoit’s shoulder. Martinsen now has points in six of his last seven games.
Fewer than seven minutes later, Tanner Kero potted a loose rebound in front of the net to boost the IceHogs to their first lead of the game. Within another minute, Forsling notched his first goal of the season on a rush to double the goal advantage.
Forsling capped his 2017-18 IceHogs debut with a goal and a game-high eight shots on net.
Brossoit finished with an impressive 40 saves in defeat, while Rockford goaltender Collin Delia earned his fourth win in his last five starts by stopping 23 of 24 pucks.
