ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Chicago Blackhawks today announced they have assigned defenseman Dennis Gilbert and forward Anton Wedin (vuh-DEEN) to the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.
Gilbert, 22, made his professional debut with the IceHogs last season, logging 14 points (5g, 9a) in 63 AHL games. The blueliner also led Rockford with 67 penalty minutes and was tabbed the team’s Most Improved Player after nearly doubling his first-half point production with nine points over his final 26 contests of the season. Gilbert then earned his first career promotion to the NHL with Chicago on April 2 and posted a game-high six hits the following night in his NHL debut vs. St. Louis.
The Buffalo, New York native was originally selected by Chicago in the third round (91st overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.
Wedin, 26, helped Timra IK earn a promotion to the Swedish Hockey League for the 2018-19 campaign and led the team with 14 goals in 32 games during the regular season. The forward also finished third in overall scoring last year with 27 total points (14g, 13a), which ranked as a career-high mark through his eight seasons with the club.
Overall, the Sundsvall, Sweden native has combined for 32 points (18g, 14a) in 83 career games in the SHL and 78 points (28g, 50a) in 204 career contests in Sweden’s Tier II League, Allsvenskan.
