West and North Division Finals Go The Distance
The Western Conference Finals will have to wait two more days for its participants as both Division Finals series in the Conference are heading to the decisive Game 7.
The Milwaukee Admirals forced Game 7 with a wild 5-4 overtime win over the Houston Aeros on Sunday night at the Bradley Center. Trailing 3-0, Houston came storming back and grabbed a 4-3 advantage midway through the third period.
But Milwaukee’s Chris Mueller tied the game at 4-4 with just 4:44 remaining in regulation and it took the Admirals’ Kelsey Wilson just 1:01 of overtime hockey to send the series to the seventh game.
The last three games in the series all finished in overtime while the first three contests were decided by just two goals. Game 7 is slated for Tuesday night at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee at 7 p.m.
In the North Division, the Manitoba Moose forced their second straight Game 7 in as many Calder Cup postseason series in 2011. Down 3-2 in the best-of-seven series, the Moose eeked out a 1-0 win in Game 6 behind an Alexandre Bolduc shorthanded goal at 3:40 of the second period.
Down 3-1 in their North Division Semifinals series against the Lake Erie Monsters, Manitoba is now 4-0 when facing elimination in the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs, with three of the victories coming on the road.
Game 7 in the North Division Finals is slated for Monday night from Copps Coliseum in Hamilton beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The Eastern Conference Finals are set with the Binghamton Senators and Charlotte Checkers slated to face-off in the best-of-seven series. Binghamton, the cross-over team from the East Division to the Atlantic Division, topped the Portland Pirates 4-2 in the Atlantic Division Finals.
Despite carrying the top home record during the regular season at 25-8-6-1, Portland dropped all three home tilts against the B-Sens in the Atlantic Division Finals, including Game 6 on Friday.
Charlotte’s path to the Eastern Conference Finals included series wins over the two-time defending Calder Cup Champion Hershey Bears and the AHL’s top regular season team, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
The Checkers knocked off the Penguins 4-2 in the East Division Finals winning Game 6 in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 4-3 on Friday. Charlotte will have home-ice advantage for the East Division Finals which begins on Thursday.
