Des Moines, IA - Back-to-back goals from Brett Seney powered the Rockford IceHogs to overtime, but the IceHogs eventually came up short in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Iowa Wild.

Just over two minutes into the game, aggressive IceHogs offense drew Iowa goaltender William Rousseau out of his crease. Iowa possessed the puck without covering their goal and immediately broke out to the other end. Jack Peart then set up Bradley Marek with an easy look for his second goal of the season. The Wild took a 1-0 lead on their first shot of the game.

Iowa continued a strong start on their home ice; with only 5:40 off the clock in the first period, Justin Kirkland snuck a shot right by IceHogs goaltender Drew Commesso. The Wild took a 2-0 lead on only three shots.

Gavin Hayes got the party started for the IceHogs offense. On a power-play chance with less than two minutes remaining in the first, Derrick Pouliot quarterbacked the offense and sent a puck in the direction of Hayes, who deflected it right past Rousseau in net. Hayes' goal extends his goal-scoring streak to six straight games and marks his 8th goal of the season. The Wild took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

In the early stages of the 2nd, Iowa's Jack Peart was rewarded for his unselfish assist in the 1st with an open chance of his own. After a faceoff win in the IceHogs' zone, Peart controlled the puck at the right dot and sent a shot to the top left corner of the net to give the Wild a 3-1 lead.

The IceHogs were granted a 5-on-3 opportunity early in the 3rd with two Wild players off the ice. Pouliot maintained possession at the blue line before dumping the puck down to Hayes at the goal line. Hayes gave it up to Dominic Toninato, who had his shot deflected by the Wild goalkeeper. Brett Seney quickly sniffed out the rebound, and laced the puck into the back of the net. Rockford now only trailed by a single goal.

The IceHogs goal moved the 5-on-3 chance to a standard power play. Still a man up on the ice, Seney and Hayes planted themselves in front of the Iowa goal. Pouliot once again controlled the offense, sending the puck down to Seney, who deflected it in for his second score only 34 seconds later. Seney's 2nd power-play goal and Pouliot's 2nd assist tied the game 3-3.

It was a stalemate for the remaining 17 minutes of the 3rd period, sending the game to overtime in Des Moines. Both teams had chances to score in overtime, but the talented goaltenders Commesso and Rousseau made the necessary stops to send the game to a shootout.

The IceHogs started on the right foot in their first shootout of the season, with Gavin Hayes netting his first shot after to even things up after a Kirkland score. In the next four shots for both teams, each side was able to net two. Seney and Connor Mackey scored for the IceHogs, and Arthur Kaliyev and Rieger Lorenz scored for the Wild.

After a miss from Toninato, Iowa's Riley Heidt scored top shelf on Commesso to put the IceHogs in a score-or-go-home position. Landon Slaggert took what would be the final shootout attempt of the afternoon, as Iowa's William Rousseau gloved the attempt and gave the Wild the win at home.
