Rockford, IL – Defensemen Cody Franson (two goals, one assist) and Nicolas Beaudin (three assists) recorded three-point games and Colin Delia made 35 saves to send the Rockford IceHogs (2-7-1-0) over the Iowa Wild (3-5-0-0) 3-2 at BMO Harris Bank Center Saturday evening.
Wild veteran Gabriel Dumont kicked off the scoring 4:26 into the contest, sneaking a shot past Delia from the top of the goal crease. The Hogs responded with tallies from Franson (9:23) and Matej Chalupa (12:46) to tie and take the lead after 20 minutes of play. Franson skated away with a goal and an assist in the opening frame and blueline partner Nicolas Beaudin registered assists on both goals.
Franson added to the IceHogs lead 11:34 into the second period with his second goal of the night on the power play with help from Beaudin and forward Brandon Pirri. Iowa veteran Cody McLeod pulled the game back within a strike at 16:01.
In the third period, Delia shut the door on the Wild, denying all seven shots including a scrambling point-blank stop on the penalty kill to preserve the win. Wild netminder Hunter Jones made 16 saves in the loss.
The IceHogs finished the game 1-for-3 on the power play while the Wild went 0-for-3.
