FORMER HOGS LEAD CINCINNATI CYCLONES TO KELLY CUP FINALS
Rockford, Ill. – Two former Rockford IceHogs have led the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones to the 2014 Kelly Cup Finals to face off against the Alaska Aces. The Finals get underway with Game 1 in Anchorage, Alaska at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
Former IceHogs winger Byron Froese ranks second in the ECHL postseason with 23 points in 17 contests with the Cyclones. Splitting time between Rockford and Cincinatti during the 2013-14 regular season, Froese accumulated 21 points in 25 games with the Cyclones and five assists in 28 contests with the IceHogs.
The 23 year-old was drafted in the fourth round (#119 overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Blackhawks and has played in 94 career games with the IceHogs.
Cincinnati is in the Kelly Cup Finals for the third time in team history and first with former Hogs assistant coach (2011-13) Ben Simon behind the bench as head coach. Simon guided Cincinnati to a 41-23-4-4 record during the regular season in his first year as bench boss.
