FORMER HOGS COACH NAMED BENCH BOSS IN CAROLINA

Peters Bill6

Rockford, Ill. - The National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes have found their next head coach as former Rockford IceHogs head coach Bill Peters will fill the vacant position last held by Kirk Muller.

Peters, 48, served as the bench boss for the IceHogs 2008-11, compiling a 122-104-14 record. Under Peters’ watch, the IceHogs finished with two 40-win seasons, including Calder Cup Playoff appearances in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

In his final season with Rockford in 2010-11, Peters directed the second-youngest team in the AHL to a 38-33-4-5 record. The Three Hills, Alb., native helped 28 Rockford players reach the NHL during his three seasons. Eight players who played under Peters for Rockford went on to win the Stanley Cup with Chicago in 2010 or 2013 – Niklas Hjalmarsson, Jordan Hendry, Antti Niemi, Corey Crawford, Bryan Bickell, Nick Leddy, Brandon Bollig and Ben Smith.

For the past three seasons, Peters has served as an assistant coach for the Detroit Red Wings, primarily responsible for taking the defensive group and penalty kill unit under his wing.
