Rockford, Ill.- Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard announced Wednesday that the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League have signed right winger Bryan Ewing to a one-year AHL contract.

"Bryan impressed us last year in the 2008 Prospects Camp and went on to have a fabulous rookie season with Wheeling in the ECHL, finishing second in points," Bernard said. "When he became a free agent on July 1, he was a player I wanted to pursue immediately as he has a lot of offensive capabilities."

Ewing, 24, spent the majority of the 2008-09 campaign with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL). The Wheeling, W.V. native registered 91 points (43g-48a) in 67 games for his hometown. He ranked third in the league in goals and second in points, earning him a spot in the 2008-09 ECHL All-Star game. He also notched his first professional hat trick on Dec. 26, 2008 against the Reading Royals.Ewing appeared in three games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He made his AHL debut on Feb. 8, 2009 against Norfolk.

"
We have every bit of confidence that Bryan will be able to translate last year’s fantastic rookie year into another terrific rookie year in the American Hockey League," Bernard added.

Before making his professional debut with the Nailers last season, the undrafted winger spent four seasons with Boston University (NCAA). He skated in 143 games during his collegiate career and registered 108 points (48g-60a).

Ewing was a college teammate of IceHogs winger Pete MacArthur at Boston University.
