Rockford, Ill.- Staff members from the Rockford IceHogs and Rockford MetroCentre volunteered at Flinn Middle School on Tuesday as a part of Sharefest 2008.

Some 21 staff, family and friends joined volunteers from several area churches and businesses for the afternoon to paint and clean one of the three schools targeted for restoration during this year’s two-week event.

Sharefest, an initiative started in 2007 by Heartland Community Church in Rockford, runs through June 28. Last year, 2,300 volunteers donated over 14,200 hours of time to the Sharefest. With Heartland’s leadership, the community project has been expanded by several area churches and businesses in the Rock River Valley.

This year’s initiative focuses on rejuvenating classrooms and hallways at East High School, Flinn Middle School and Stiles Elementary School, which serve more than 2,800 students every year.
