DOWELL NAMED ICEHOGS CAPTAIN

Rockford, Ill.- Center Jake Dowell was named the third team captain in the Rockford IceHogs’ American Hockey League era, Rockford Head Coach Bill Peters announced Friday.

The Eau Claire, Wis. native is playing in his third season with the IceHogs. During the 2008-09 campaign, he appeared in a career-high 75 games while tallying 20 points (6g-14a). He was also held scoreless in one game for the Chicago Blackhawks.

In his first two professional seasons, Dowell has appeared in 20 career games with the Blackhawks recording three points (2g-1a) and 12 PIMs. He has skated in 133 career AHL games, 124 with the IceHogs where he has notched 13 goals and 24 assists.

Dowell becomes the IceHogs third captain since the team joined the AHL after serving as the team’s alternate captain the past two seasons. Centerman Tim Brent was team captain during the 2008-09 season and defensemen Jim Fahey was captain in 2007-08. Mark Cullen and Bracken Kearns were named the alternate captains.

Next Home Game: Friday, Oct. 16 vs. Chicago Wolves. Game time is 7:05 p.m. After five-straight road tilts to open the 2009-10 regular season the IceHogs return home to face the Wolves. The first 5,000 fans to the game will pick up an IceHogs wall calendar from Maverick Media and 23 WIFR.
