ROCKFORD, Ill. – The American Hockey League today announced that Rockford IceHogs defenseman Adam Clendening has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending April 2, 2018. He is Rockford's second player to win the award this season (also Collin Delia on March 4) and first defenseman since Dustin Byfuglien on Oct. 21, 2007.
Clendening, 25, helped the IceHogs sweep their two-game series against the then-top-ranked Manitoba Moose and cap a three-win week with a victory over the San Jose Barracuda on Saturday. The blueliner posted multi-point efforts in each of the three contests and shared the AHL lead with seven total points (2g, 5a) during the week.
On Monday evening, Clendening tallied a season-high three assists in Manitoba to help boost Rockford to a 4-2 road win against the Moose. He then notched a goal and an assist both in Manitoba on Wednesday and at home against the Barracuda on Saturday. Clendening fired a season-high seven shots on goal during Saturday’s victory against San Jose en route to concluding the week with a team-high 13 shots on goal over three contests.
The Niagara Falls, New York native has now logged 33 points (5g, 28a), 76 penalty minutes and a +3 rating in 53 games between Tucson (21 games) and the IceHogs (32 games) this season. He leads Rockford and shares first among AHL defensemen in scoring with 28 points (4g, 24a) since making his IceHogs season debut on Jan. 12.
Clendening also currently holds the franchise’s all-time points and assists records for an IceHogs defenseman with 146 points (26g, 120a) and 120 assists in 217 career games with Rockford from 2012-15 and 2017-18.
