DEFENSE LEADS THE WAY AS HOGS DOWN STARS 2-1
ROCKFORD, Ill. – Luc Snuggerud and Cody Franson provided a goal apiece, Collin Delia stonewalled 38 of 39 shots and the Rockford IceHogs earned their second consecutive win with a 2-1 victory over the Texas Stars at the BMO Harris Bank Center Wendesday night.
Delia posted his third straight win – and fourth in his last five outings – between the pipes, and improved his overall record to 10-6-2 on the year with his effort.
Snuggerud notched the game-winning tally 4:20 into the second period, blasting home a Chris DiDomenico drop pass from the top of the faceoff circles for his fourth marker of the season.
Rockford also opened the scoring on a power play 14:46 into the opening frame, as DiDomenico fed a cross-ice pass to Franson who wired a one-timer into the gaping net. With a pair of points tonight, DiDomenico has tallied two points in each of his three games played with Rockford, and leads the AHL in scoring in that span.
Adam Clendening also picked up an assist on Franson’s strike, setting an IceHogs AHL franchise record for points by a defenseman with 135, as well as assists by a defenseman with 110.
The Stars cut the deficit to one midway through the middle frame, but Delia and the Hogs held strong through the third period to seal the win. Texas’ Mike McKenna stopped 24 of 26 shots, but suffered his first defeat in five starts.
