DARREN RADDYSH SIGNS WITH ROCKFORD
Rockford, Ill. – The Rockford IceHogs, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks, announced today that they have agreed to terms with defenseman Darren Raddysh on a one-year AHL contract. Raddysh spent the last five seasons playing for the Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League, where he was teammates with Chicago Blackhawks prospect Alex DeBrincat.
Raddysh, 21, had an award-winning season with Erie in 2016-17, finishing the season with 16g-65a-81pts in 62 regular season games. He led all OHL defenders in points, was second in assists and fifth in goals while being awarded the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the OHL’s Most Outstanding Defenseman. His efforts also earned him Leo Lalonde Trophy as the OHL Overage Player of the Year (age 20 at the start of the season).
The Caledon, Ontario, native helped the Otters claim the OHL Championship last season and led all defenseman in goals (8), assists (14) and points (22) in 22 postseason contests. Raddysh competed in five Memorial Cup games, leading all defensemen in goals (3), assists (5) and points (8) while being selected to the Memorial Cup All-Star Team.
Over his five-year OHL career (2012-17), the 6-1, 200 lbs. defenseman racked up 41g-143a-184pts in 272 games. He is the Otters’ all-time leader in assists and points among defensemen and helped Erie set a Canadian Hockey League record with four-straight 50-win seasons.
Darren’s brother Taylor Raddysh, also a member of the Erie Otters, was selected in the second round, #58 overall, by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
