Hogs fall 3-2 in Rosemont on Sunday

Rosemont, Ill.- A third straight third-period comeback was not meant to be for the Rockford IceHogs on Sunday as they fell 3-2 to the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena.

Down by a goal late in the third period, the IceHogs had a power play for the game's final 1:52, but could not solve Wolves netminder Joe Cannata. Rockford trailed 3-2 entering the third period once again on Sunday after winning two games over the weekend when trailing entering the third frame.

Rockford jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Sunday while shorthanded. Dylan Olsen poked a puck to Jeremy Morin and the winger flipped his 22nd goal of the season past Cannatta in transition at 9:06 of the opening stanza.

Two quick strike goals from Michael Davies put the Wolves on top moments later. Davies' first strike came at 12:57 when he was sprung on a breakaway and flipped his 11th tally of the season over Carter Hutton.

The winger struck again less than a minute later as the Wolves hemmed in the Hogs in their own end. Davies picked up a Darren Archibald pass and fired his second goal of the night past Hutton at 13:43.

In the second frame Rockford tied the game at the 2:59 mark. Defenseman Ryan Stanton blasted a Kyle Beach pass over Cannata for his first goal of the season.

Later in the period, Chicago retook the lead with a goal in transition. Steve Pinizzotto found Kevin Connauton trailing the rush and the d-man cranked his fourth goal under the cross bar and in at 16:55, giving the Wolves the ultimate 3-2 edge.

Rockford outshot the Wolves 39-21 and in the three games over the weekend, allowed just 11 third period shots on goal. Both teams were blanked on the man-advantage, with Rockford going 0-4 and the Wolves coming up empty in three attempts.
