CATCH THE ICEHOGS IN THE COMMUNITY THIS WEEKEND
Hogs help Stone Creek Elementary School achieve reading goal
Rockford, Ill.- With the 2007-08 season behind the Rockford IceHogs, the American Hockey League club now looks forward to the off-season and a busy summer in the community. The IceHogs, along with Hammy Hog, will be out and about in the Rockford community this weekend.
Strap on your running or walking shoes and join the IceHogs and the Muscular Dystrophy Association for the MDA Stride and Ride on Saturday. A partner with the MDA since 1999, the IceHogs will help raise money for MDA as the organization continues to strive to find a cure for muscular dystrophy.
Whether you form a team with friends and family or take part individually, you'll be making a difference for local kids and adults who are affected by muscular dystrophy. The MDA Stride and Ride will take place at the Rock River YMCA in downtown Rockford.
Fans can get their picture taken with Hammy as well on Saturday at the Belvidere Wal-Mart. Hammy will be at Wal-Mart from 1:30-2:30 p.m. meeting and greeting customers and will be available for photos and autographs.
The IceHogs and Hammy Hog will show their support for the local United Auto Workers (UAW) when they make an appearance at Solidarity Day at the Boone County Fair Grounds on Sunday, June 1.
The IceHogs will feature their Fan Information Booth from noon-5 p.m. handing out information regarding the 2008-09 season. Fans can also sign up to win prizes courtesy of the IceHogs including tickets to Opening Night 2008!
Also this week, the IceHogs were at Stone Creek Elementary School in Roscoe to help the school celebrate reaching their reading goal during the 2007-08 school year. Students at Stone Creek Elementary School received vouchers as incentive for achieving personal reading goals.
The school had a goal of reading 5,000 books during the school year and blew that amount away, reading 7,510 books. For reaching and surpassing their goal, the school’s principle John Novota, along with two other staff members, had to kiss a pig at a school assembly on Tuesday.
Stone Creek Elementary School also participated in the IceHogs Fundraiser program during the ’07-08 school year. With the IceHogs, the students helped raise nearly $800 for their school.
