CALDER CUP PLAYOFFS DOWN TO FINAL FOUR

The Calder Cup Playoffs are halfway over with four teams still vying for the American Hockey League’s top prize.

In the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Barons rolled through the second round, knocking out the Texas Stars in five games. The Barons will take on the Midwest Division Champion Grand Rapids Griffins who eliminated the Toronto Marlies in six games.

The Eastern Conference features the Syracuse Crunch, who has yet to lose a Calder Cup Playoff game. The Crunch is the top affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning, the same affiliation that won the Calder Cup last season in Norfolk as the Admirals.

The red hot crunch will battle the Wilkes-Barrre/Scranton Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Penguins became just the third team in the 77-year history of the AHL to overcome a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven playoff series and advance as they won four straight against the Providence Bruins.
