Rockford, Ill.- Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon announced on Saturday that the National Hockey League club has assigned center Tim Brent to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. The IceHogs also announced the addition of defenseman Andrew Archer to its training camp roster.

Brent was acquired during the offseason by the Blackhawks from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Danny Richmond. The centerman played a huge role in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins march to the AHL’s Calder Cup Finals last spring. Brent tied for the league lead in postseason scoring, netting 12g-15a-27pts in 23 Calder Cup Playoff games.

The Cambridge, Ontario native is entering his fourth season in the pro ranks. During his first three campaigns, Brent has skated in 16 career NHL contests, 15 with the Anaheim Ducks and one with Pittsburgh. In 74 regular season games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2007-08, Brent notched 18g-43a-61pts.

Archer, a 6-4, 213-pound defenseman was also added to the IceHogs preseason roster today. The Calgary native spent most of the past five seasons with the Hamilton Bulldogs. Archer has played in 220 career AHL contests, all with the Bulldogs.

The blue-liner was a member of Hamilton’s 2007 Calder Cup Championship team, appearing in 19 contests in the postseason. During the 2006-07 season, Archer was the defensive partner of current IceHogs d-man Danny Groulx on that championship club.

Both Brent and Archer are expected to be in Rockford for tonight’s final preseason game against the Peoria Rivermen at 7:05 p.m. at the Rockford MetroCentre.
