Brodeur re-assigned to Pensacola

Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs General Manager of Hockey Operations Al MacIsaac announced that the American Hockey League club has signed defenseman Brennan Turner to an Amateur Try Out contract. MacIsaac also announced on Thursday that goaltender Mike Brodeur was re-assigned to the Pensacola Ice Pilots (ECHL).

Turner was the Chicago Blackhawks fifth round selection (#134 overall) in the 2005 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Turner recently completed his junior season at Yale University. Over the past three seasons, the 6’-3” defenseman appeared in 58 games for the Bulldogs.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba native becomes the sixth player from Chicago’s 2005 draft to sign and skate in Rockford this season. Jack Skille (round one), Mike Blunden (round two), Evan Brophey (round three), Niklas Hjalmarsson (round four) and Adam Hobson (seventh round) are the others.

Brodeur was making his third stint with Rockford this season. In six overall games with Rockford, Brodeur was 2-3-0-0 with a .910 save percentage and a 2.71 goals against average. Brodeur helped backstop the IceHogs past the AHL’s top team, the Providence Bruins, making 21 saves in Rockford’s 5-1 win.

With Pensacola this season Brodeur has a record of 5-7-4 in 18 appearances with a .909 save percentage and a 3.18 goals against average. The fourth-year goalie was re-assigned to make room for Corey Crawford, who was sent down from the Blackhawks on Monday.

Next Home Game: Friday, March 21 vs. Quad City Flames. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. The Hogs meet up with the Flames for the final MetroCentre meeting of the season. The IceHogs, along with Comcast, welcome SpongeBob SquarePants to the game. Kids can meet and take pictures with the popular Nickelodeon cartoon character.
