BONDRA SIGNED, SVEDBERG ASSIGNED
Rockford, Ill. - The Rockford IceHogs announced on Monday that the team has agreed to terms with right wing Radovan Bondra on a one-year AHL contract. In a separate transaction, defenseman Viktor Svedberg has been assigned to Rockford by the Chicago Blackhawks.
Bondra, 20, joined the IceHogs at the tail-end of the 2016-17 campaign and picked up two penalty minutes (PIM) in five games. The 6-5, 216 lbs. forward split the majority of last season between the Vancouver Giants and Prince George Cougars (WHL), playing in 62 games with 32g-31a-63pts.
The Trebisov, Slovakia native played the last two seasons (2015-17) in the WHL, racking up 47g-46a-93pts in 120 games. Before making the move to North America, Bondra helped Team Slovakia capture the Bronze Medal in the 2014-15 U20 World Junior Championships. That season, he also helped HC Kosice to the Slovakian Extraliga championship.
Bondra was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fifth round (#151 overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
Svedberg, 26, appeared in 51 games for Rockford last year, collecting 2g-9a-11pts and 70 PIM. The Gothenburg, Sweden native has played the last four seasons (2013-17) with Rockford, skating in 175 games and posting 8g-41a-49pts with 176 PIM.
The 6-9, 234 lbs. defenseman made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 9, 2015, and scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 15, 2015 against the Washington Capitals.
